Douglas Girls Volleyball Beats Coral Springs High

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High girls’ varsity volleyball players are getting closer to regaining their title as district champions.

Douglas recently dominated against its rival Coral Springs High School.

“We played them at their home field this past week, and we won the match. The girls played a great game,” said Douglas girls’ varsity volleyball Head Coach Dean Barboza.

There was much school spirit at the game because of many cheering fans, added Barboza.

“The girls were really excited because they prepared and practiced a lot for the game. It was quite an exciting match, and the crowd was pumped up,” said Barboza.

The local coach credits the win to hard work among all the players, especially Kendall Putnam and Kirsten Kuhl. The team hopes to keep their title of district champs. Douglas will participate in the district playoffs next week.

“Douglas has won the district over Coral Springs eight years in a row. There is a lot of pressure to continue that winning streak,” said Barboza.

In preparation for a district win, Barboza says the team will continue to practice against teams outside their district.

“We’ve scheduled tough matches against teams outside our district, such as Cardinal Gibbons High School and others. These are all tough teams and will help to raise our level of play for districts,” said Barboza.
