Vandals Expelled From Douglas High, Coral Springs Middle

Three 15-year-olds, who were charged with vandalizing Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland the end of last school year, did not return to their former schools this school year. They have been expelled and are now attending an alternative center.

The vandalism cost the Broward County School District over $3,000 to clean up the campus.

The three males- who were two Douglas freshmen and a seventh grader at Coral Springs Middle School- broke into the Parkland high school and spray painted graffiti and pornographic images on the walls and floor May 29. Parkland BSO detectives arrested the suspects a few days later after irate students started sending text messages to find out who trashed their campus.

At that time, all three students were suspended for 10 days, and then expelled, according to Marsy Smith, spokesperson for Broward County Public Schools.

The three are not allowed to go back to their previous school and must attend one of the District's Alternative Centers, added Smith.

The trio, who all live in Coral Springs, also face burglary and felony criminal mischief charges.

The total damage to Douglas added up to over $3,000 worth because the trio covered the school’s walls with graffiti and glued some of the locks on the doors shut, which required the purchase of new hardware, according to Smith.
